Our Optometrists

Corrine Frazer
BOptom(Hons) GradCertOcTherap

Corrine Frazer joined our practice in September 2014 after previously working in the Wollongong area of NSW.

Corrine received her Bachelor of Optometry degree from the University of Auckland in 2011, graduating with First Class Honours. She is also qualified to prescribe medicines to treat a range of eye problems, as well as handling things like the removal of foreign objects from people’s eyes.

Her special interest is eye disease and Corrine is able to check eyes for glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataract, diabetic eye disease, dry eye, ocular melanoma and a range of other conditions.

For people who are interested in contact lenses, Corrine enjoys demonstrating contact lenses in the eyes so that a patient can walk around with them for an hour to experience what it is like.

Corrine and her practice staff also have a special interest in providing the latest advantages of the new developments in spectacle lenses. These include no-line lenses to give a clear focus at all distances, polarized glare protection and Crizal UV - the only coating for ultra violet eye protection that is endorsed by the Cancer Council.

Eye Health

Macular Degeneration

Macular Degeneration (MD) is a disease that destroys the central vision that we use for everyday tasks such as reading and driving. It is the leading cause of blindness and severe vision loss in Australia. For patients older than 50 years, one in seven will have some sign of it. While there is presently no cure for MD if it is detected early enough we can slow its progression.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is an eye disease which slowly destroys the optic nerve at the back of the eye. In some cases in may move rapidly. It is usually caused by increased pressure inside the eye though it may be caused by poor blood supply or a weakness of the optic nerve. Over 300,000 Australians have glaucoma. It is more common as we age but it can occur at any age.

Cataract

A cataract is a clouding or haze of the lens inside the eye which leads to a decrease in vision. Opacities in the lens obstruct light from passing through and being focused on to the retina.

Diabetic Eye Disease

Approximately 4% of people have diabetes; often undiagnosed. As well as damaging other parts of the body, diabetes can also damage the eyes causing vision problems, glaucoma, cataract and diabetic retinopathy.

UV Damage To The Eye

In recent years, it has been shown that just like sunburn and skin cancers, exposure to ultra-violet (UV) radiation also causes eye damage.

Excessive UV exposure has become an increasing problem since the depletion of the ozone layer.

Pterygium

One of the most common effects of UV damage to the eye is pterygium. This is a triangular growth of thickened degenerative tissue on the white of the eye (called the sclera) that may also extend onto the cornea. It is usually on the nasal side.
