About Us

Eyecare Plus Sydney CBD was first established in 1932 in the State Theatre Building. The Sydney practice has been previously engaged with well-known optometrists such as Penhryn Thomas and Professor Charles McMonnies. In February 2010, under the management of Dr Gavin Boneham, the clinic moved to the historic Dymocks Building where it is currently located today.

Our practice is locally owned and run by the renowned Dr. Gavin Boneham with more than three decades of industry experience and has a keen interest in advanced contact fitting and myopia control.

Eyecare Plus Sydney CBD has always strived to provide personalised service in a friendly and professional manner for everyone to enjoy. We offer eye tests, prescription glasses, prescription contact lenses and world-leading designer glasses for men, women and children.

Spectacles and contact lenses are provided at no cost for patients covered by Veterans Affairs. Our staff will be pleased to advise you on your entitlement.

Often there are people with a need for spectacles but who are not able to afford the cost, or part of it. Some state governments provide limited assistance for people in need. Please talk to our staff and they will be pleased to explain the eligibility requirements and how to make an application.

Where is Eyecare Plus Sydney CBD located?

Conveniently located in the heart of Sydney CBD, you will find our practice on the fourth level inside of the Dymocks Building on George Street. On the ground floor, between the Dymocks bookshop and the Dymocks stationery store is the entrance to the building lobby with elevators that will take you to our Eyecare Plus Sydney CBD practice.

Our opening hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday and 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM on Tuesday and Friday.


How to best travel to Eyecare Plus Sydney CBD?

Our practice can be reached via public transportation. The Town Hall train station is approximately 400 metres South while the Wynyard train station is approximately 550 metres North on George Street. Being in the heart of the city, you won’t find it difficult to catch a bus that reaches our Eyecare Plus practice.

There is plenty of secured parking surrounding our Sydney optometrist clinic. The nearest secured parking, located approximately 150 metres away, is the Wilson Parking - 44 Market Street accessible via Clarence Street. Parking here begins at $9 for the first half an hour. You can also find Wilson Parking at 71 York Street and MLC Centre off-ramp on King Street. Parking here starts at $18 for the first half an hour.


What is Eyecare Plus – Checkup Plus™?

Checkup Plus™ is more than just an eye test. Our optometrists take the time needed to give you a thorough eye examination.

A Checkup Plus™ will usually take 30 to 45 minutes and will cover testing for various optical conditions like amblyopia (lazy eye), cataract, diabetic retinopathy, eye muscle control, macular degeneration, and more. Following your comprehensive eye test, we will carefully explain the results and discuss our recommendations regarding any preventative or remedial care required.


How much does an eye test cost?

Medicare benefits are payable for most consultations. Some additional fees apply for services that are not yet covered by Medicare. Our staff will be pleased to explain these fees.


Does Eyecare Plus Sydney CBD provide eye tests for children?

1 in 5 Australian children have vision problems. We provide specialised eye tests to make sure that any vision problems are detected and any learning difficulties related to vision are corrected.


Does Eyecare Plus Sydney CBD provide benefits for veterans?
