Digital Retinal Imaging

Digital Retinal Imaging (DRI) is a scan that provides an image of the internal and anterior eye. The interior includes the retina, macula, optic nerve and vessels, and the anterior eye; the cornea, conjunctiva and eyelids.

These images allow your optometrist to detect and monitor subtle changes in the eye between visits as well as monitor and manage specific eye conditions. Detecting changes in the eye early allows for a more comprehensive treatment plan to protect the eye.

DRI can assist the optometrist in managing and detecting changes in the eye associated with macular degeneration, glaucoma, hypertension, cholesterol, diabetes and cancers of the eye.

At Rolfe Eyecare Plus DRI is part of every full examination. The cost of this is $45 for adults and $15 for students and children.

Patients sometimes ask why we charge for this service when others don’t. We could say it was due to our experience and expertise but we went out and tested why. Below is a comparison of the same patient’s free image and our comprehensive image taken on state of the art equipment. You can see why the image cost nothing as it was worth nothing.
