Lloyd Turner is our full time optometrist - he is available for consultations Monday through Friday, but usually he isn't available on Thursday.

Newcastle is Lloyd's home town. He completed his optometry degree at the University of NSW in Sydney, graduating with honours in 1994. He returned home and started working at this practice. Since then he has taken the opportunity to work at over 20 practices in Australia and England, gaining valuable experience in best practice eye care, contact lenses, spectacle lenses and children's vision.

Lloyd has run vision clinics in Peru, Zimbabwe and Botswana - providing valuable eye care in places that have none. Hundreds of people are seeing clearly thanks to glasses donated by the good people of Newcastle.

Outside of work and family time, Lloyd helps organise the Bill Turner Cup and Trophy school soccer competitions, which are named in honour of Lloyd's father.

Reshana Seetharam is available for consultations on Thursdays. Reshana is very well qualified, including her licence to prescribe eye medication. She is happy to see new patients of all ages and to take the time to give you the best result possible. Reshana works at our sister practice in Swansea on the other days.

Our team consists of Lloyd Turner and Reshana Seetharam (optometrists) along with Jane, Kristy, Eliza, Heidi and Tracey.

Lloyd Turner is our principal Optometrist - he has been consulting for 15 years at this well known Newcastle practice. Reshana Seetharam works at Hamilton on Thursdays. Lloyd and Reshana will give you a comprehensive eye examination including checking you for all eye diseases. We can also test the kid's eyes, give you advice on laser eye surgery and tell you all about the latest in contact lenses. Lloyd or Reshana will be happy to see you for your routine check, or if you have any problems with your vision and eye health. Call now to book in yourself or the whole family. Consultations are bulk-billed to Medicare, just to make it even more convenient for you. (Bring your Medicare card. If you don't have one, initial consultations cost $60-$100.)

If you want durable - we have flexible titanium alloy frames that are as tough as you can get. If you want value for money - we can help you see clearly with a decent quality frame. If you want glasses that are cheap and nasty - you will need to go elsewhere.

Our Focus - Latest Technology

We have some of the latest equipment - including a digital retina camera. The camera lets us take instant high resolution images of the inside of your eye. For the first time, you can see the back of your own eye! Lloyd will explain if anything is wrong and tell you what you need to know. If everything is healthy, we will have your retina photo available as a baseline for next time - making early detection of eye disease even more accurate than ever before. If you have diabetes - this test is essential. If you have any family history of glaucoma - this test is essential. If you are over 40 and your vision is important to you - then this test is essential. This test is prefect for checking for macula degeneration. This technology is too new for a Medicare rebate, so there is a small fee.

History

We have been here on Beaumont Street, Hamilton (a suburb of Newcastle, NSW) since just after the Newcastle earthquake in 1989. Optometrist Peter Woolf owned the practice back then and helped Lloyd develop his children's vision and Behavioural Optometry skills. For the last decade, the practice has been called Loox Optical, but at the start of 2009 we changed our name to Eyecare Plus.

Some frames are expensive but still excellent value for money. Some frames are inexpensive but still top quality, and supreme value for money.
We use the best quality lenses. We like lenses that give you the best vision, are easy to look after, and will be durable. Surprisingly often, this isn't actually any more expensive. We go to a lot of trouble to know which lenses are ideal, so that you don't have to worry about it. For example, there are over 200 brands of multifocal lenses. Some are the pick of the crop and some are old rubbish. We use the ones that give you the easiest adaption, widest areas of clear vision, with long-lasting easy-clean coatings. All our lenses have a warranty against any manufacturing defects. Don't be fooled by advertising for cheap multifocal lenses - you always get what you pay for. Discount multifocals are always old, superseded designs that we stopped using decades ago.
Our pricing policy is simple and never misleading. You choose the frame you want - we have everything from budget to durable to unique stylish frames. We recommend the lenses you need for your problem. If you need the basic lenses then we recommend the basic lenses. If you need something premium, then we give you the right options. Our staff don't have sales targets and there is no pushy "up-selling."

The practice is located on Beaumont Street - just near the corner of Tudor Street. We are between the Gloria Jeans and the Terry White Pharmacy - we have been here for over twenty years now!
