Dr Sanisha Nand (Sani) graduated with Honours from University of Auckland and is also licensed to prescribe therapeutic medications for your eyes. She brings a wealth of experience having worked in clinical optometry for the last 14 years. Quality

eyecare is her passion and she is keen on patient education and helping patients understand the importance of maintaining eye health.

Her special interests are contact lenses, myopia control and dry eye conditions and is always on the lookout for new and innovative therapies, techniques and technologies.

Li graduated from the University of NSW in 2005 with Class 1 Honours. After rising to practice manager in a prominent Sydney practice, she took a change in her career path to become the ambassador for an Australian-first community health initiative to raise the awareness of Age-Related Macular Degeneration. For two years, she and her husband Paul (practice manager at Avalon Beach) travelled across Australia in a motor-home to conduct macula degeneration screening and patient education in regional communities. They featured in local newspapers and radio talk-shows, as well as an appearance on the Mornings with Kerri-Anne show. The Vision Van inspired Li and Paul to establish their first greenfield optometry practice in the regional Central Coast, where more quality eyecare is needed. Through practicing in a regional location where referral to an ophthalmologist can be limiting, Li has gained a wealth of knowledge and experience in ocular disease management, and furthered her studies to allow her to prescribe topical ocular medications.

She is passionate about good quality eye examinations, which begins with listening to the patient. She takes time to conduct a customised repertoire of tests before making her recommendations. Aside from ocular disease, she is also experienced with children’s vision, myopia control and soft contact lens fitting. She has relocated closer to the Northern Beaches to allow for more educational opportunities for her two young children.

Mark is the 3rd generation of his family to become an optometrist. He grew up seeing his father and grandfather looking after the local community and holds a genuine interest in community based eye care. The optometry practice in Hastings became at one time, the biggest private practice in England.

Mark studied at The City University, London and after he graduated was accepted for his registration year at The Institute Of Optometry, London. His training in Britain also involved hospital based eye emergency placement and visits to Great Ormond St, Children’s Hospital.

Mark joined the family practice, before emigrating to Australia 30 years ago. Mark is a passionate surfer and gravitated to the Northern Beaches and he practiced in Dee Why for over 20 years, before settling at Newport and finding us here at Avalon Beach.

Paul’s first exposure to Optometry began in 2007, when he took a change in career path from a Sydney CBD office job to the regional communities in the outback country. The opportunity to drive a motor-home around Australia in an Australian-first community initiative to raise the awareness of Age-Related Macular Degeneration was too good to turn down. For two years, Paul and his then fiancé Li (optometrist at Avalon Beach) travelled across Australia to conduct macular degeneration screening and patient education in regional communities. They featured in local newspapers and radio talk-shows, as well as an appearance on the Mornings with Kerri-Anne show. The Vision Van inspired Li and Paul to establish their first greenfield optometry practice in the regional Central Coast in 2011, where more quality eye care is needed.
