At our practice, we have a highly effective dry eye, blepharitis, recurrent styes, and ocular rosacea treatment. This involves IRPL (Intense Regulated Pulsed Light) therapy which eradicates blepharitis, promotes healthy tear production, and reduces inflammation. If you are finding you need more eye drops to lubricate your eyes, or have sore eyes, dryness, irritated eyes and find the redness of your eyes something that concerns you, please speak to our friendly staff. The device we use is the TearStim IRPL by Eyetek and we are excited to provide excellent care as a dry eye hub.
The treatment takes only a few minutes and is performed by our trusted dry eye optometrist.
What is IRPL & how does it work?
Intense Regulated Pulsed Light (IRPL), a form of intense pulsated light, is a high energy light that acts in multiple ways by delivering heat, shrinking dilated blood vessels and stimulating nerves (1). Through this action, inflammatory conditions such as meibomian gland dysfunction, blepharitis, and ocular rosacea can be treated. IRPL promotes meibomian gland function and significantly reduces inflammation of the eyelids. This translates to increased comfort, reduced eyelid redness, and the reduced need to use eye drops to lubricate the eyes. It is important to recognise that whilst lubricating eye drops help with dry eyes, they do not address the root cause of the problem.
Evidence based practice
As healthcare providers, optometrists have a duty to provide evidence-based care for their patients (2). IRPL is recognised by the literature to be an effective and valid method of treating meibomian gland dysfunction, blepharitis and ocular rosacea (3). Most patients feel relief after two sessions of treatment and may not require lubricating eye drops for the next 6-12 months after therapy (4).
With the best optometrists by your side, you can be sure of the highest quality in eye care and optical needs for your style and budget.
