Eyecare Plus Optometrist Alice Springs

Bill graduated Optometry from QIT in 1981. In 1994 he completed a Graduate Diploma in Management from UNE and in 2005 was awarded a Graduate Certificate in Ocular Therapeutics from QUT. This qualification allows him to treat eye conditions that require prescription eye drops.

Bill has worked in private practice in Perth, WA, for 4 years, in the UK for 5 years and worked in Alice Springs since 1989.

Bill’s wife, Trudy, is an accountant and they have brought up 4 children in Alice Springs. His interests include mountain biking, golf and gardening when it is not too hot or the flies too bad.

Jo graduated from QUT in 2013 with a Bachelor of Vision Science and Master of Optometry. He is trained in ocular therapeutics which allows him to treat eye conditions that require prescription eye drops.

After starting his career in regional South Australia, Jo joined the team at Bill Robertson Eyecare Plus in 2015.

Jo enjoys all aspects of optometry but in particular he takes great interest in complex contact lens fitting for conditions such as keratoconus as well as myopia control and orthokeratology.

He is passionate about the health of people who live in rural and remote areas and has expanded the remote outreach service that our practice provides. In 2013 Jo obtained his pilot’s licence and uses this to improve the efficiency of our outreach service and has become known as “The Flying Optometrist”.

Jo sits on the Optometry Australia’s Transport and Vision Standards Advisory Group and he is involved in providing education to optometrists aspiring to be credentialled by CASA to perform aviation eye examinations for pilots. He also sits on Optometry Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Eye Health Advisory Group.

Jo was awarded the “Young Optometrist of the Year” for QLD and NT in 2017.

On his weekends Jo enjoys hiking, camping, tinkering in the shed and teaching people to fly gliders with the Alice Springs Gliding Club.

In 2017 Andrea commenced work with Bill Robertson Eyecare Plus as an Optometric Assistant and in 2020 added Flying Optometric Assistant to her role, a new facet to the job which she absolutely loves.

Andrea has been an active volunteer in many local community groups over the years and is currently Secretary of Alice Springs Hospital Drover Volunteers and Alice Springs Wig Service, Conductor of Sing Australia Alice Springs and a regular volunteer for Alice Springs Inland Dragway and Arunga Park Speedway.

She loves spending her spare time with her dog Maya (a Haasts Bluff rescue dingo), regular sessions at the gym, cycling the many bike paths around Alice Springs and long phone calls with her daughter Georgia who was born and raised in Alice Springs and is currently in her first year as a Physiotherapist in Adelaide.
