Bill commenced his career in optometry in 1982 in Fremantle WA in a private family group practice. He worked in suburban Perth and also carried out trips to the wheat belt country towns over a four year period. Gaining registration qualifications for the U.K. he worked for a total of 5 years in and around London. This included working in a specialized contact lens practice on Harley Street and running a busy practice as Senior Optometrist in Cambridgeshire.
With his wife Trudy, he moved to Alice Springs in 1989 soon after their marriage. The position was to manage Laubman and Pank which became a 10 year posting that included running a very busy town practice as well as many bush trips to Tennant Creek, Yulara and a large number of aboriginal communities.
After a working holiday to the UK, Bill opened this independent optometry practice in Hartley Street Alice Springs in 2002. The practice has always had an overriding emphasis on quality and trustworthy eyecare, thorough eye examination techniques with the most state of art technology and genuine friendly and efficient service to all clients. Bill Robertson Optometrists uses the best laboratories in Australia to ensure that the quality of the products dispensed is of the highest standard.
Bill has continued to prescribe a great number of contact lenses for all types of eye disorders and his training in London with complex hard contact lenses has led to the ability to correct many disorders where no other mode is possible. The corneal topographer instrument in the practice is essential for these complicated fittings. His other professional interests include eye pathology, sports vision and outreach optometry to remote central Australia.
Bill and Trudy have four adult children and Bills out of work interests include mountain biking, tennis and golf.
