Darryl Flegg
Optometrist
About Us
The focus of our practice is to provide quality, experienced eyecare on an individual relationship basis rather than on a transaction basis. Corporatisation of optometry has meant that patient care and relationship can come secondary to the sales transaction. Everyone claims professional eyecare and quality eyewear but at Darryl Flegg Optometrist we aim to build a relationship with our patients, such that we get to know you and your needs. Unlike other optometry businesses in Bowral, the practice is both locally owned, locally operated and with local people looking after you.
All examinations include a comprehensive assessment of both vision and eye health. The practice recommends Computerised Digital Retinal Imaging for all patients over 40, as this allows an advanced detection of details not visible by standard methods. The results are fully discussed with you by Darryl, the images stored permanently on record and are able to be compared from one visit to the next.
Function, Fashion and Affordability are all important when considering spectacle frames and lenses. The practice offers a wide range of spectacle frames and is able to cater for affordable to designer budgets. We are also able to advise you on lens design with choices available in affordable to premium lens designs using the world’s latest technology. Our staff enjoy giving you personal attention with the right advice for your lifestyle and prescription needs.
Darryl graduated from the University of New South Wales and shortly after moved to the Highlands to establish his optometry practice in Bowral. Initially in Springetts Arcade, the practice then relocated to Bong Bong Street. After nineteen years of providing quality personal eyecare services Darryl pursued new challenges for a number of years, and then recommenced practice in February 2010 in the current Wingecarribee Street location.
During his time away from local private practice Darryl participated in eyecare aid programs to Sri Lanka after the tsunami, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands. He also developed a passion for Indigenous eyecare and travelled many times to remote communities in the Northern Territory to provide clinical eyecare services. Although in private practice again, Darryl still makes it a priority to continue to travel to the Northern Territory several times a year to provide these much needed services. He has been recognised by the Australian Government for his aid work.
Darryl’s further education includes a certificate in Business Administration (Latrobe University) as well as surpassing the continuing education requirements for Optometric registration.
In 2015 Darryl completed his Ocular Therapeutics qualification which allows the prescribing of prescription eye medications. Darryl’s further education also includes a certificate in Business Administration (Latrobe University).
He played local soccer for Moss Vale Soccer Club for twenty five years and also enjoys chatting about his cattle.
