Specialty Contact Lenses

Patients with poor vision in glasses due to keratoconus, high astigmatism, corneal grafts or other causes of corneal distortion may benefit from specialty contact lenses. Lenses such as the Rose K2 XL Semi-scleral lens do not touch the cornea, but form a liquid tear lens over the areas of distortion, and with the correct parameters they can produce excellent visual outcomes.

Our optometrists have extensive training in specialty contact lenses; speak with us to see if you will be a good candidate.

Specialty Glasses

Advancements in technology have led to the creation of glasses technologies that blur the lines between single vision, bifocal and multifocal lenses. As an independent optometry practice, we can source the latest lens technologies from different suppliers to suit your individual work environments.

Some examples of specialty glasses include:

  • Reading glasses with extended range to 3 metres
  • Invisible Bifocals
  • Freeform Multifocals
  • Super-thin lens materials
  • Anti-Fatigue, Blue Control, Digital lenses

Giving Back

Our optometrists have volunteered their time for vision screening at Special Olympics in Australia and New Zealand, as well as in rural China. Our practice supports the charity Optometry Giving Sight.

Eye Health

Amblyopia, or Lazy Eye, is a reduced vision, generally in only one eye. The condition usually results from poor eye co-ordination, from having a turned eye, or after having one eye which requires a far greater lens power.

A cataract is an opacity or clouding of the lens inside the eye, then distorting the light as it enters. Cataracts are often confused with pterygium but cataracts cannot be seen on the surface of the eye.

Colour Vision And Colour Blindness

Colour blindness is almost always inherited, although it can be acquired condition as a result of some diseases or injuries.

Diabetes And Vision

The health of the retina is very dependent on a good blood supply to the eye. Diabetes compromises this circulation and can cause serious damage to the retina (diabetic retinopathy).

Digital Eye Strain

Computer Vision Syndrome or Digital Eye Strain are terms used to describe vision-related problems that result from prolonged - and particularly close up - viewing of devices with modern screens such as flat screen televisions, computers, tablets like iPads and mobile phones.

Dry Eye Disease

Dry eye disease is caused by a chronic lack of sufficient lubrication and moisture on the surface of the eye.

Dry eye can cause a scratchy sensation or the feeling that something is in the eye, with people often complaining of irritated, itchy, watery eyes.

Glaucoma is a disease where the pressure within the eye is typically increased (although not always). This can damage parts of the eye, and if left untreated may result in blindness.

Hyperopia, or Long-sightedness, causes a person to see clearer at far than at near distances.

Macular Degeneration

Macular Degeneration (MD) is a disease that destroys the central vision that we use for everyday tasks such as reading and driving. It is the leading cause of blindness and severe vision loss in Australia. For patients older than 50 years, one in seven will have some sign of it. While there is presently no cure for MD if it is detected early enough we can slow its progression.

Meibomian Gland Dysfunction

Meibomian ("my-BOH-mee-an") glands are the tiny oil glands which line the margin of the eyelids (the edges which touch when the eyelids are closed). There are about 25 to 40 meibomian glands in the upper eyelid and 20 to 30 in the lower eyelid. The function of these glands is to secrete oils onto the surface of the eye. These oils help keep the tears from evaporating too quickly. The tear film lubricates and keeps the surface of our eyes healthy; it also affects how clearly we see.

Myopia And Myopia Control

Myopia, or Short-sightedness, is a condition in which near objects are seen more clearly than objects which are far away.

Presbyopia is a gradual loss in the focusing ability (accommodation) of the eye and is part of the normal vision changes we all experience as we age.

A pterygium is a triangular growth of degenerative tissue on the white of the eye (sclera), usually on the nasal side, that may extend onto the clear window of the eye called the cornea.

Spots And Floaters

Spots and floaters are semi-transparent specks of natural materials inside the eye, which sometimes can be seen floating in the field of vision.
