Welcome to Eyecare Plus Optometrist Indooroopilly

Insight Optometrist is an accredited member of the Eyecare Plus group, a select collective of clinically-driven optometry practices across Australia.

We employ the most current techniques and instrumentation technology when supplying eye examination services or products. This means that you, our valued client, can be assured of premium levels of professionalism and clinical expertise at all times when it comes to caring for your eyes and vision. We specialise in comprehensive eye examinations, prescription sunglasses, contact lenses and eye health for the whole family.

About Us

At Insight Optometrists, we combine highly skilled professionals with state-of-the-art optical technology. We take the time to assess your eye health and vision and will discuss with you the best alternatives to help you see clearly now and into the future.

As part of the commitment that we offer all our patients, we have introduced digital retinal imaging as part of a routine eye test for children. In adults it assists in more advanced retinal examinations. This is the latest in diagnostic equipment, producing a high quality digital image of the retina, which can be used to detect early signs of glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, abnormal cholesterol and high blood pressure.

Eye Health

Amblyopia, or Lazy Eye, is a reduced vision, generally in only one eye. The condition usually results from poor eye co-ordination, from having a turned eye, or after having one eye which requires a far greater lens power.

Astigmatism is an out-of-roundness of one or more surfaces in the eye's optical system.

Colour Vision And Colour Blindness

Colour blindness is almost always inherited, although it can be acquired condition as a result of some diseases or injuries.

A cataract is a clouding or haze of the lens inside the eye which leads to a decrease in vision. Opacities in the lens obstruct light from passing through and being focused on to the retina.

Diabetic Eye Disease

Approximately 4% of people have diabetes, often undiagnosed. Diabetes can damage many parts of the body, including the eyes, causing vision problems, glaucoma, cataract and diabetic retinopathy.

Digital Eye Strain

Computer Vision Syndrome or Digital Eye Strain are terms used to describe vision-related problems that result from prolonged - and particularly close up - viewing of devices with modern screens such as flat screen televisions, computers, tablets like iPads and mobile phones.

Dry Eye Disease

Dry eye disease is caused by a chronic lack of sufficient lubrication and moisture on the surface of the eye.

Dry eye can cause a scratchy sensation or the feeling that something is in the eye, with people often complaining of irritated, itchy, watery eyes.

Spots and floaters are semi-transparent specks of natural materials inside the eye, which sometimes can be seen floating in the field of vision.

Glaucoma is an eye disease which slowly destroys the optic nerve at the back of the eye. In some cases in may move rapidly. It is usually caused by increased pressure inside the eye though it may be caused by poor blood supply or a weakness of the optic nerve. Over 300,000 Australians have glaucoma. It is more common as we age but it can occur at any age.

Hyperopia, or Long-sightedness, causes a person to see clearer at far than at near distances.

Macular Degeneration

Macular Degeneration (MD) is a disease that destroys the central vision that we use for everyday tasks such as reading and driving. It is the leading cause of blindness and severe vision loss in Australia. For patients older than 50 years, one in seven will have some sign of it. While there is presently no cure for MD if it is detected early enough we can slow its progression.

Myopia Control

MiSight 1 Day contact lenses for myopia control

MiSight 1 Day contact lenses are a new treatment for myopia control from CooperVision.

With myopia becoming more prevalent in the youth of today, slowing its progression is becoming more and more important. Aside from the fact that the child will not need to increase their prescription every year, slowing down myopia reduces the dangers of related complications later in life such as retinal detachment and degeneration and also glaucoma.

What is Orthokeratology?

Orthokeratology (Ortho-K), is a form of non invasive, overnight vision correction therapy in which a highly customised contact lens moulds and reshapes the front surface of the eye while you sleep. The reshaping that occurs overnight allows you take the lens moulds out in the morning and see clearly without spectacles or conventional daytime contact lenses. For this reason, this form of therapy is widely referred to as a non-invasive alternative to laser eye surgery. The process of corneal reshaping to correct vision is exactly the same principle that is used in laser eye surgery. The main difference is that laser permanently shaves layers off the front surface of your eye in order to reshape the surface and allow clear vision. This process involves cutting through corneal nerves endings (which eventually regenerate) and is the reason why some people have dry irritated eyes after the procedure. Other side effects of laser include haloes at night.

Eye Muscle Inco-ordinations, or Phorias, occur when the eyes do not align or focus together as a team. This improper control of the eye muscles can result in crossed-eyes, poor focussing ability, or simply discomfort and headache from the extra effort required.

Presbyopia is a gradual loss in the focusing ability (accommodation) of the eye and is part of the normal vision changes we all experience as we age.

One of the most common effects of UV damage to the eye is pterygium. This is a triangular growth of thickened degenerative tissue on the white of the eye (the sclera) that may also extend onto the cornea (the window at the front of the eye).

Visual Therapy

What is Visual Therapy?

Optometric visual therapy is a series of programmed activities undertaken to improve either poorly developed visual, visual motor or visual perceptual skills, or procedures to further enhance the present visual skills to a higher level of efficiency and / or stamina.
