Eye Health

DIGITAL SCREEN LIFE

Just 2 hours in front of a digital screen can cause your eyes to feel strained and dried out. The average Australian spends 10 hours a day staring at some form of screen.

Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration is a condition that affects the central retina and has the potential to cause permanent central vision loss. It is one of the most common causes of vision loss in people over 50 and while it cannot be cured there are treatment options that can slow it's progression.

Cataracts

A cataract is a clouding of the natural lens, the part of the eye which focuses light and produces clear, sharp images. It does not form as a film on the eye, as many think, but actually forms within the eye.

For most people, cataracts result from ageing although eye injuries, certain medications, excessive UV exposure and diseases such as diabetes have also been known to cause cataracts.

Pterygium

A pterygium is a triangular growth in the surface of the eye that can extend over the cornea. It is caused by UV exposure and if becomes large enough requires surgical removal.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a disease most commonly caused by increased pressure in the eye. Left untreated, such elevated pressure causes irreversible damage to the optic nerve resulting in progressive, permanent vision loss. Fortunately early detection and treatment can slow or even halt the disease’s progression.
