Dry eye disease or dry eye syndrome is caused by a chronic lack of sufficient lubrication and moisture on the surface of the eye. We offer a range of treatments to alleviate the symptoms of dry eye.

Digital Retinal Imaging (DRI) is a scan that provides an image of the internal and anterior eye. DRI can assist the optometrist in managing and detecting changes in the eye associated with macular degeneration, glaucoma, hypertension, cholesterol, diabetes and cancers of the eye.

Behavioural Optometry is an expanded area of optometric practice that considers your vision in relation to your visual demands, such as reading, computers, and learning to read and write, to ensure your vision is working easily and comfortably. Vision therapy is a series of programmed activities undertaken to improve either poorly developed visual, visual motor or visual perceptual skills, or procedures to further enhance the present visual skills to a higher level of efficiency. During vision therapy, we work on developing sound visual efficiency and visual processing skills, as well as working on integrating vision with other sensory inputs.

Many eye and brain disorders can cause peripheral vision loss and other visual field abnormalities. Visual field tests detect blind spots (scotomas) and other visual field defects, which can be an early sign of these problems.

Myopia, or short-sightedness, is a condition in which near objects are seen more clearly than objects which are far away. Myopia occurs when the eyeball is too long, relative to the focusing power of the cornea and lens of the eye. This causes light rays to focus at a point in front of the retina, rather than directly on its surface.

Syntonics is the use of coloured light which may help improve certain vision disorders. The name syntonics comes from the word ‘syntony’; to bring to balance. The specific light frequencies work by balancing the autonomic nervous system.

Syntonics is often used before or during a vision therapy program. Optometrists who prescribe syntonics will use a special light box known as a ‘Syntoniser’, or light filter goggles, with the appropriate coloured filter for each eye condition.

Syntonics may be a useful treatment in remediating vision problems in:

• Children with visually related learning difficulties.
• Binocular vision disorders.
• Eye turns or lazy eyes.
• Traumatic brain injury or concussion.
