Welcome to Eyecare Plus Optometrist Scone

Eyecare Plus Scone has been providing professional and personalised eye care services in the Upper Hunter region for over 30 years.

About Us

At Eyecare Plus Scone, we pride ourselves in providing professional eye care services. We are a longstanding business in the community, running for over 30 years.

In that time, we have established a reputation for professional and friendly eye care services.

Our Optometrists Daniel and Tracey are currently working in both our Scone & Muswellbrook practices. In a routine eye examination, they will assess vision, the need for prescription glasses as well as eye health conditions such as Glaucoma, Cataracts, Macular Degeneration and Diabetic Retinopathy.

Specialised appointments in areas of contact lens fitting and behavioural optometry (paediatric) are also offered. Our Eye examinations appointments are bulk billed and easily scheduled, we can instantly arrange your Private health claim for purchases on the spot and can offer several payment methods to suit you.

Location

We are conveniently located on Kelly Street, right next door to Domino's Pizza.

I studied at the University of New South Wales graduating in 2013 with a combined degree in Optometry and Science with honours. I was also the recipient of a scholarship allowing me to perform vision screenings on people from remote communities in Broome providing me with further experience in clinical skills. I am also qualified to prescribe eye drops for treating sore eyes and infections.

Since graduating I have worked in various regional locations including Armidale, Tamworth, Muswellbrook and Scone. I live locally and have strong ties to the community. I am passionate about providing professional and friendly eye health services to the people of the upper hunter while being supported by a team of friendly staff.

I also graduated in 2013 at the University of New South Wales with my combined degree in Optometry and Science (with honours). I have an interest in myopia (short-sightedness) control in children and young adults, as well as public health, including diabetes. I also have a strong interest in contact lenses, where I have undertaken research in risk factors in contact lens related diseases, which has recently been published.

I am qualified to prescribe eyedrops for treating eye infections, red eyes and glaucoma.

Apart from Muswellbrook and Scone, I have also worked in Tamworth, Armidale and Singleton. Since moving to Muswellbrook in 2014, I have been devoted to providing comprehensive eye health services with the support of our friendly local staff, with strong connections to the community.

Good Eating For Your Eyes

Eating the right types of foods can do wonders for your eye health.

Eating foods like:

  • Leafy greens like spinach, kale & broccoli particularly rich in two antioxidants called lutein and zeaxanthin that produce a substance which scientists think helps protect the eyes against age-related macular degeneration.
  • Brightly coloured fruit and vegetables like oranges and carrots increase beta-carotene, a carotenoid pigment. Beta-carotene is an important precursor for vitamin A. An extreme lack of vitamin A can cause blindness.
  • Nuts, eggs & beans produce to right type of protein needed... Salmon, tuna, sardines and mackerel are high in, Zinc and vitamins C and E which is great for your eyes. Omega 3 fatty acids may help protect against dry eyes, macular degeneration and even cataracts.

Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetes is a major cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart attacks, stroke and lower limb amputation.

As well as damaging other parts, diabetes can also damage the eyes causing vision problems, glaucoma, cataracts and diabetic retinopathy.

Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration is the leading cause of blindness in Australia affecting one in seven people over the age of 50.

Your macula is located at the back of the eye and is a light sensitive tissue that allows you to recognise faces, read the newspaper and drive. The macula is very active as it tells your brain what you see all hours of the day, thereby uses a lot of energy and produces a lot of waste.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a condition where the information cable, known as the optic nerve, becomes damaged and fails to send information from your eye to your brain. This is mostly caused by an increase of the pressure inside the eye or lack of blood to the nerve fibers within the nerve. It is the second leading cause of blindness affecting 60 million people worldwide, and this figure is set to rise in the future. In Australia, 1 in 8 will get glaucoma.

Cataracts And UV Damage

Pterygium

A pterygium is a growth that develops on the conjunctiva or mucous membrane that covers the white part of your eye. It's a benign or noncancerous growth that's often shaped like a wedge. In some cases, a pterygium can extend to the cornea. This is the clear part of your eye that covers your iris and pupil. A pterygium usually doesn't cause problems or require treatment, but it can be removed if it interferes with your vision.

Children's Vision

Children eyes are still developing, and need to be at their strongest, using their eyes all the time when at school. Anything affecting the eyes can reduce your child's performance at school.

Our Services

Changing Lives, One Pair At A Time

Donate glasses and change someone's life. Imagine if you could help a child read. An adult succeed in his job. A senior maintain her independence. And provide a community with more opportunities to grow and thrive. In just about any home, one can find a pair of eyeglasses that are no longer being used. That same pair of eyeglasses can change another person's life.

Lions Recycle for Sight

That's why we started the Lions Recycle for Sight program. Everyone can help.

Throughout the year, Lions, Leos and other volunteers collect used eyeglasses and deliver them to regional Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers (LERCs). LERC volunteers clean, sort by prescription strength and package the glasses. Recycled glasses are distributed to people in need in low and middle income communities where they will have the greatest impact.

Eyeglass Recycling – How You Can Help

Everyday, our recycled eyeglass programs do all of this and more. Here's how you can donate glasses and help.

Drop Your Eyeglasses in Lions Collection Boxes

You can drop off your usable eyewear at Lions-sponsored collection boxes in your community. Eyecare Plus Scone passes your usable unwanted spectacles to our local Lions club.
